It is with great pleasure that we introduce our newest team member, Derrick Osborne, who joins SRSI in the role of Project Engineer. Derrick brings a wealth of experience and a genuine passion for design and innovation to our rapidly growing company.
Discovering Derrick’s Roots:
Derrick is a proud native of Memphis, Tennessee, where his journey into the world of engineering and design began to take shape. He attended the University of Memphis and earned his degree in Manufacturing Engineering Technology in 2006, setting the stage for his remarkable career.
A Twist of Fate in the MH Industry:
Derrick’s journey into the Material Handling (MH) industry took an unexpected turn while he was majoring in Architecture. A small company sought someone with the enthusiasm for design and the willingness to learn the intricacies of MH and detailing in AutoCAD (ACAD). Derrick saw this as an opportunity to fuse his love for design with his curiosity about the inner workings of things.
Derrick’s Professional Niche:
Derrick’s niche in his profession revolves around his deep-rooted love for ACAD. With over 20 years of experience, he is a true master of his craft. His drawings are not just meticulous but also works of art in their own right. He takes great pride in ensuring that every detail is in place, enriching the drawings with essential information, additional sketches, and notes.
Short- and Long-Term Aspirations:
In the short term, Derrick’s goals are to become familiar with the core values and culture of SRSI, particularly the value of Collaboration. He is determined to establish open communication and cooperation with colleagues from various departments, including Engineering, Controls, and Estimating. By doing so, he aims to contribute to the company’s ongoing success and growth.
Looking further ahead, Derrick’s long-term ambitions are to develop strong working relationships with everyone at SRSI, including customers. He strives to master his role as a Project Engineer, becoming a versatile and knowledgeable expert who can fill various positions within the company. Ultimately, he envisions retiring from SRSI, leaving a legacy to be proud of.
Derrick’s Vision of the MH Industry:
Derrick views the Material Handling industry as one that is in constant evolution. The integration of robotics and automation is accelerating product delivery to customers, setting higher efficiency standards. Looking to the future, Derrick anticipates the rise of vertical warehouses that optimize space for quicker product accessibility. He firmly believes that the MH industry’s commitment to pushing boundaries is crucial for economic growth.
Excitement at SRSI:
Derrick’s most profound excitement about joining SRSI lies in the opportunity to delve into the diverse aspects of Material Handling. His enthusiasm is directed towards learning more about RACK storage, AS/ARs, RAFT, and other areas that SRSI will explore in the future.
Derrick’s Life Outside the Office:
Beyond work, Derrick enjoys spending quality time with his kids, occasionally engaging in sports activities such as basketball. He still finds joy in drawing by hand, an art form that connects with his childhood passion for creativity. He is also an avid follower of new technology and enjoys staying updated with the latest advancements. Spirituality holds a special place in his life, and he often reads and listens to his Bible. In the future, Derrick aspires to make a positive impact in helping people recover from alcohol abuse in Memphis.
