Welcome, Jesus Pompa!
Jesus Pompa joined the SRSI team early in 2022 as the first company representative for our brand new Mexico office. His onboarding signifies the success and continuous growth for the SRSI team, and we are thrilled to have him join our efforts. Jesus’s experience in the material handling industry extends throughout many applications across Latin America.
Born and raised in Monterrey, N.L., Mexico, Jesus received his bachelor’s degree from Monterrey Tech University in industrial engineering. He also received his master’s degree in science with an emphasis in manufacturing.
His introduction to the Material Handling Industry
Jesus began his career after education with John Deere working in manufacturing. Throughout a handful of years in his position, Jesus worked in production processes and material flow simulations, manufacturing cells, architecture, and implementation, production control systems design, helped develop plant expansion layouts, participated in core processes reengineering, and ERP deployment.
Jesus then moved to a major chain of convenience stores, OXXO. OXXO is the largest of its kind in Latin America with over 20,000 points of sale. He helped outline and execute automation projects for existing DCs, design and implement gain-sharing compensation systems for warehouse operators and helped delineate operating processes for DCs.
Jesus’s next career path brought him to telecommunications with Iridium. He worked in project management and business development for Mexico and Central America.
Jesus returned to OXXO for a 17-year stint. In his second tour at OXXO / FEMSA Comercio he started in operations and new business development, and then settled back into OXXO’s supply chain area where he worked, among other duties, in distribution network planning and deployment, distribution centers design and turn-key implementation delivering 11 new DCs in an eight-year span, processes outline and implementation for warehouse operations, KPIs definition for warehouse and distribution operations, gain-sharing compensation systems design and execution, and labor management.
After 10 years, Jesus joined FEMSA Comercio Corporate planning area where he worked in the development and testing for new proximity stores, formats, and supply chain assessments for potential M&A targets. In his last assignment in FEMSA Comercio Jesus worked in the health division where he developed the supply chain and logistics capabilities for the new drug stores chain.
His Journey in the Material Handling Industry
Jesus describes engineering as one of his passions, “it just makes sense to me. There’s a logical order in engineering processes and I appreciate the structure and consistency. I enjoy problem solving and being able to measure the performance of systems.” He added that time, capital, and area constraints are all pieces to puzzles he knows well when it comes to engineered solutions.
When asked about the direction of material handling, Jesus mentions, “there are a lot of vulnerabilities apparent after we were hit with the pandemic. Companies are really focusing on reviewing their operations and supply chains, solidifying, or restructuring them so they are not as sensitive to unforeseen challenges like we saw in 2020 -21.” He also added, “There may be a refocus on regional supply chains. Having your day-to-day operations rely on far away vendors puts some companies in a vulnerable position.” Jesus’s knowledge of the supply chain and experience with operations expansions, specifically for retail companies, sets him apart from many industry professionals. His background has prepared him well to approach SRSI’s growth in Mexico and build strong partnerships, collaborations, and integrations between the US and Mexico.
Jesus’s Goals with SRSI
Jesus has big plans for his new opportunity with SRSI. Establishing our presence in the Mexico market will set the groundworks for success as the team begins projects and customer support throughout the area. The team will continue to grow the Mexico division and bring on more talent to support customers. “Our visions are set and ready to be put into action for 2022,” Jesus states.
He is eager to grow the team and build a competitive advantage for SRSI de Mexico. He adds, “we will have a good balance of support for warehousing and distribution centers as well as manufacturers.”
In his free time…
Outside of supporting new customers, Jesus enjoys reading, running, and spending time with family. His favorite authors include Albert Camus and Mario Vargas Llosa. Jesus has an incredibly bright future ahead of him with SRSI, and the team is thrilled for this new opportunity and milestone.
